How to Make BBQ Sauce
Every home-cook and BBQ fanatic should have a signature BBQ sauce. A tangy, rich, gooey sauce that you’ll want to put on everything from burgers to chicken wings. Our tomato-based version is the perfect starter BBQ sauce. Over time you can fiddle with the ingredients, adjusting them to suit your tastes and making it your own. You’ll never buy store-bought again.
In a large Dutch oven or pot, crush up your tomatoes and then add all the remaining ingredients (except the oil). Bring to a boil over high heat and once it’s bubbling nicely reduce to medium-high. Let simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring often to prevent any sticking. Whiz the mixture in a food processor until smooth, being careful not to spatter yourself with the hot mixture. Transfer back to your pot and stir in the oil and once more to boiling. This sauce keeps in the fridge for up to 2 weeks or in the freezer for 3 months.
Use this sauce to baste wings, breasts, thighs…. well anything really! Once you’ve mastered the basic sauce, experiment with your own ingredients and try making a few of our other fantastic sauces below.
