How to Make Québec Chicken Tourtière
This traditional Quebecois dish is given a chicken-y makeover.
While tourtière is traditionally made with red meat our version uses ground chicken and shredded chicken thighs. Trust us when we say it’s just as delicious as the original.
Here’s a few tips and tricks for making an amazing tourtière at home:
- Use frozen pie crusts: You can make your own pastry, but why not save yourself the time (and the clean up!) and use pre-made crusts.
- Use leftovers: Our recipe calls for ground chicken and chicken thigh meat, but any kind of chicken will work well. It’s a fantastic way to use up leftover roast chicken and / or cooked chicken breasts cut into cubes. And save last night’s mashed potatoes. They make a great filler.
- Use rotisserie chicken: If you’re short on time but craving a home-cooked meal, a store-bought rotisserie chicken will do in a pinch.
- To ketchup or not: Purists will tell you that the only condiment that goes with tourtière is ketchup and we agree. Serve it with good ol’ ketchup or try it with our homemade apple ketchup.
